This Time Last Year

Ah bless, look at my face; happy, carefree, and blissfully unaware of the year 2020 about to hit us like a raging elephant.
This is a mirror selfie in my beautiful accommodation just before heading out to see some sand dunes and ride a camel in the Gran Canarian desert of Maspalomas.
It's ironic. Last year there was such a panic on the island that 2020 was going to be an economic disaster due to lack of tourists. They were right, but for a completely different pair of reasons.
They were worried about Brexit and the implications for travel - since a good chunk of the tourists that visit the Canary Islands are British. There was also massive uncertainty after the collapse of Thomas Cook, since the travel company brought a significant number of tourists to the islands.
Little did they, or any of us know, what 2020 really had in store.
2021
I've been going on about the Canary Islands for a bit now. I believe if Corona hadn't taken 2020 away from us, I would have made the move by now. It wasn't even just I that was considering it. My sister who lives in the USA also was making plans to move closer, but didn't fancy living in a place that has winter. We were making plans.
2021, we are looking at you. Don't mess things up.
Peace & Love,
Adé
