"Mam"
The trickle of sea water tickled her as it passed around her toes.
"Mam!"
The amber glow of the setting sun warmed her skin.
"MAM!"
She rolled to one side and looked up, a skinny young girl was scowling at her, she smiled.
I'm hungry! Derick and Susan are hungry! Its time to go!" the girl complained.
"Ok" said mum in a cheerful sing song voice and remained laying on her tummy, the crystal clear sea water was so flat, the lapping trickles of water could in no way be called waves, she loved the feel of the gentle influx. The girl was still admonishing her, the many given reasons and beratements flowed over her head and she said "What do you think this is?"
The question was lost amid the protests of now three children.
"I have to be on youtube mam you know that! You know the livestream is happening now" whinged one.
"I have to be on my desktop mam you know I am working on a project!" mumbled the other.
She knew it wasnt hunger, they ate more or less constantly, it happens when the teen years take hold she thought and she smiled. Their desire to return to the technological world was the driving force annd she was in no hurry to leave the beach, it was so peaceful, so beautiful.
"Mam!" came a chorus of voices, the impatience was tangible.
"Look at this though, it has travelled the oceans, it has seen many places" a theatrical tone to her voice, then a mock serious face as she said "I think it's a bulb"
Two of the children continue their protestations.
The youngest crouches near mum and takes a closer look.
"What sort of bulb? It looks dead to me, wont grow" the young girl said in a very matter of fact way.
The wavelets, she had decided on calling them wavelets they just werent big enough to be under the monika of wave, they were wavelets and they softly, warmly, almost lovingly, she liked to think, lapped around the perfect toes of her daughter.
She felt content, happy in this moment in time.
"I think we will take it home" said mum " and plant it, see what grows" she smiled at her daughter. Her youngest picked up the bulb and put it in a sand bucket.
"Never be in a rush, darling, always take time to enjoy the beauty of the sun setting, " she gazed out to the horizon "the sounds of the birds" she listened to the seagulls screeching overhead "and always, always, take a moment to let an extra wavelet or two drift over you" said mum quietly.
They sat and for a few minutes the universe gave them that perfect moment, mum and daughter laid at the edge of the calm sea, the sand was warm underneath them, the sky a soft amber was beginning to darken as the evening tried to creep in, the peace settled through them and they absorbed the beauty of this life
"Right! That's it!" said the oldest "We are going right now!" came the demand accompanied by a glare of defiance, So cute, thought mum and laughed, she got up and hugged her oldest. The sun went about its business of going down in a glory of colour and they all began going home.
It was a perfect day.
