3Speak might be one of the most exciting projects we are seeing on Steem. Of late, it is not getting a ton of publicity since they are doing a lot of things in the background. That does not mean, however, that they are not taking major strides forward.
The team is implementing a plan that actually was rushed due to the displacement of so many content creators. Facebook and Google's censorship campaign caused the team to act before they were fully prepared. This is not a setback since it provided the opportunity to bring some people over to Steem.
That said, the next couple months should be interesting. A lot of what was put out is going to remain in effect. The biggest issue is scaling. This is where the time comes in. Video hosting is a very resource consuming process. This means it take a lot of money. The scaling approach will allow for the proper growth while maintaining the proper resource allocation.
One of the exciting aspects to this, in my opinion, is the ability to participate on the platform without a Steem account. This seems counter intuitive at first but actually makes a lot of sense.
The platform allows for signing in with Facebook and Google accounts. This opens up the platform, instantly, to billions of people. All these people can comment on posts, thus earning them STEEM and another token.
But how is that possible?
Through the use of accounts they set up, all posts are sent to the blockchain via that account. Also, any rewards earned from the payout will be allocated to the individual poster. This will allow for non-Steemians to earn rewards.
Since there is a cost to setting up a Steem account, this process will be used to pay for them. When an individual earned enough for an account, he or she will be notified at the eligibility of converting to a Steem account. Thus, people can operate on 3Speak like they have an account yet will receive it when it is earned. This will help to eliminate the setting up of accounts for people who will not participate.
Of course, the activity is only limited to 3Speak until they do get a Steem account and what they can do is limited. The money is not actually theirs, thus delegation or withdrawal is not possible.
Rewards for activity will also be paid out in the SPEAK token. This is one that is going to be used on the platform similar to what we are seeing all over Steem. So far, this is not tied to anything although the plans are to get involved with Steem-Engine on this.
It is good to see a project with some big money behind it. This could be a trend in the not-to-distant future with Steem. If a project like this takes off, I think we will see a number of companies duplicate this process. Using a hybrid approach is fascinating since it opens up Steem to tens of millions providing the opportunity to interact immediately while also handling the on-boarding process.
The project is attracting the attention of some larger content creators who have a million plus followers on YouTube. This has the potential to place a Steem-based application in front of millions of people in a very short period of time. It is something like this that could provide a dramatic increase in the number of users on this blockchain.
A lot of the plans are mum for the moment. The team is obviously in negotiations on a lot of things and will not reveal the plans until things are finalized.
In the meantime, here is an informative interview conducted by @exyle.
An explosion in the use of 3Speak will help every Steemian. This has the potential to take Steem to levels we have no seen before.
It is going to be fun to watch.
