Meeting my friend Naty in Ushuaia allowed me to make all kinds of plans around the city. It had been over four months of staying in Ushuaia and I was slowly starting to wish I had more stable friends, so meeting her was great. Like me, she stayed there a lot, but only had weekends free to do something. It was at these times that we would take the opportunity to do anything. On one of those days, we came across a proposal for a guided tour of Playa Larga for locals, but since it was free anyway, we decided to join in ❤️.
Haber conocido a mi amiga Naty en Ushuaia me permitió hacer todo tipo de planes en los alrededores de la ciudad. Ya habían pasado más de cuatro meses estando alojada en Ushuaia y lentamente estaba empezando a desear tener amigos más estables, por lo que conocerla fue genial. Al igual que yo, ella se quedó bastante ahí, pero solo tenía libres los fines de semana como para hacer algo. Era en estos momentos cuando aprovechábamos para hacer lo que sea. En uno de esos días, encontramos la propuesta de visita guiada a la Playa Larga para vecinos, pero como de todos modos era libre y gratuita, decidimos unirnos ❤️.
Both Naty and I already knew Playa Larga from previous trips, but the idea of a guided tour sounded good. She found out about this activity on social media and immediately sent it to me. To join, we had to fill in a form with our details, and the meeting was on a Saturday at 3 PM. As usual in Ushuaia, the weather was quite changeable, so on the same afternoon we had overcast and clear skies every 10 minutes.
Tanto Naty como yo ya conocíamos la Playa Larga por haberla visitado en otros paseos anteriores, pero la idea de una visita guiada sonaba bien. Ella se enteró de esta actividad en las redes sociales y enseguida me la mandó. Para unirnos, tuvimos que completar un formulario con nuestros datos, y la reunión era un sábado a las 3 PM. Como siempre en Ushuaia, el clima estaba bastante cambiante, por lo que en la misma tarde tuvimos el cielo tapado y despejado cada 10 minutos.
Playa Larga is 6 km from the city, and to get there faster we took an Uber which cost us $4. This particular guided tour was to learn a little about the flora and fauna of the place, and was organised by the park rangers of the Tierra del Fuego National Park. In my case, on my previous visit I had come just to drink mates, so hearing a bit about nature was good for me.
La Playa Larga queda a 6 km de la ciudad, y para llegar más rápido nos tomamos un Uber que nos costó $4. En particular esta visita guiada era para conocer un poco sobre la flora y la fauna del lugar, y estaba organizada por los guardaparques del Parque Nacional Tierra del Fuego. En mi caso, en mi visita anterior había venido solo a tomar mates, así que escuchar un poco sobre naturaleza me venía bien.
This visit was quite well attended, there were about 20 of us and most of us were neighbours. Only my new friend and I were from Buenos Aires, but after a few months we felt like locals too. As far as tourists are concerned, Playa Larga is a well known destination because it takes you to the trekking of the Encajonado River and Estancia Tunel, but not many people stop to see it calmly.
Esta visita tuvo bastante concurrencia, éramos como 20 personas y en su mayoría, eran vecinos. Solo mi nueva amiga y yo éramos de Buenos Aires, pero después de algunos meses ya nos sentíamos locales también. Con respecto a los turistas, la Playa Larga es un destino conocido por llevarte al trekking del Río Encajonado y Estancia Tunel, pero no mucha gente se detiene a verla con calma.
During the visit we learned about types of plants on the beach, marine animals that circulate in the channel and types of stones near the water. It is always interesting to learn a bit more about the nature around us, and our guides explained everything very well. The route was not very complicated as it is a flat beach, but we still walked from one end of the beach to the other.
Durante la visita aprendimos sobre tipos de plantas que hay en la playa, animales marinos que circulan en el canal y tipos de piedras cerca del agua. Siempre es interesante conocer un poco más sobre la naturaleza que nos rodea, y nuestros guías nos explicaron todo muy bien. El recorrido no era muy complicado ya que es una playa y plana, pero igualmente caminamos de una punta de la playa a la otra.
By the time the visit was over and we started to leave, the weather had improved and the views of the beach and the Beagle Channel were beautiful. The thing about Playa Larga is that the entire length of the beach is beautiful to look at, whether you are going to it, staying there or coming back. My favourite view of the beach is the one you see when you are far enough away from it, because you get a nice panoramic postcard. What do you think?
Para cuando la visita terminó y nos empezamos a ir, el clima mejoró y las vistas de la playa y el canal de Beagle eran hermosas. Lo que tiene la Playa Larga es que todo su recorrido es lindo para ver, ya sea yendo a ella, estando o volviendo. Mi vista preferida de la playa es la que se ve cuando ya estas bastante lejos de ella, porque se obtiene una buena postal panorámica. ¿Qué les parece?
The visit to Playa Larga was a good mid-afternoon plan before I had to go back to the hostel to work. What I like most about Ushuaia is that there is always a little corner available to go for a walk, and it doesn't matter if you have visited it before, it is never the same. I was happy to find in Naty a companion for this kind of relaxed walks without the hustle and bustle of the touristy ones: my legs had a little rest from climbing so many mountains 😅.
La visita a la Playa Larga fue un buen plan de media tarde antes de que tuviera que volver al hostel a trabajar. Lo que más me gusta de Ushuaia es que siempre hay un rinconcito disponible para ir a pasear, y no importa si lo has visitado antes, nunca es igual. Me gustó encontrar en Naty una acompañante para este tipo de paseos relajados y sin tanto ajetreo como aquellos turísticos: mis piernas descansaron un poco de subir tantas montañas 😅.
