Sometimes I see a movie at home and I regret not having paid a movie ticket to see it in all its splendor and enjoy it even more than I did at home, however from time to time happens to the opposite, I see a movie at the cinema and God! I regret having spent money on something that is not worth it. That was the case with Hellboy, the fanaticism for the previous movies made me hyped for this movie so I decided to see it in the theater, and what a disappointment cause the movie is a total disaster.
Hellboy continues in a way with the story told in the first two movies of this demonic character raised by a human and determined to live his life in full harmony with humanity.

The Apparently "Story"
Let me think of a way to summarize Hellboy's Story... Ok, in this movie we have again our charismatic demon, but this time with a new personality, now he is a little more "rough". In short, the film focuses basically on Hellboy's fight against a powerful millenary witch who apart from being also powerful is immortal and as a good villain wants to conquer the world making the monsters rule the present.
Apart from trying to conquer the world, the powerful witch wants revenge against the humans who locked her up for hundreds of years and that's where Hellboy comes in, as a good superhero he will have to do the impossible to stop her. For it, our demonic red friend goes on a strange journey through England where he knows an agent that can turn into a kind of giant tiger and a psychic old friend that can possess the deaths...Super strange and unnecessary.
The plot advances with a lot of bad surprises, in one scene we are chasing the witch and in the other we are looking for the sword of the legendary King Arthur, yes Scalibur. All those hops in plot, scenes and useless characters make the story eternal although everything happens really fast. There is no connection between the characters and the story, everything seems to be thrown into the void waiting for something to fall on its feet.
Few things in this film contribute to the plot, the effects, the CGI, the settings and the shots are wasted and I dare say poorly executed. At one point in the film, you wonder if this is some kind of Scary Movie version of Hellboy.
The movie has a stupid plot where nothing new or relevant really happens, with an ending, that my God! what bad it was, so you turn Hellboy into an evil and overpowerful being and in the next second you take away all that power so that he becomes good again, but not before he defeats the witch.

The performances
Another point that I find very difficult to describe are the characters, because the film doesn't make good use of them at all, and I mean the characters, not the actors. The actors do an almost mediocre job, no one transmits what their character is supposed to transmit, you see the lack of development, you see that they are new actors who almost did not understand the script, in short you can see a lot of mistakes in their interpretations.
I want to focus on four characters, first David Harbour as hellboy that for me does not end up convincing in this new role, his appearance is fine but his rude and caricatured personality does not, for a character designed for a rating R film he doesn't manage to transmit the savagery and intensity of an anti-hero like Hellboy, not even when he becomes bad for a few minutes we believe he is really more bad and intense than before.
Then we have Daniel Dae Kim as the agent / tiger man who wants to look enigmatic and rude but only makes us get sick of him, it is super annoying to see how he always wants to go against without contributing to the plot. We also have Milla Jovovich as the superpowerful and immortal witch, who does not scare anyone and seems lost in the scenes she has, the actress does not achieve intimidated us with her performance.
The highest point in the performances is given by Sasha Lane as the psychic friend of hellboy, a young woman who fulfills the role she was given to be a kind of voice of reason, offering us some bizarre but funny moments. However his performance is defined in that, some good moments and that's it.

Summary.
The movie is an endless disaster that I didn't enjoy at all, and that just left me waiting for its end. Maybe it's because I'm a big fan of the first two movies, but this kind of reboot/sequel disappointed me because of the lack of creativity in the development of the plot and for how poorly implemented the visual resources are and especially the CGI that looks fake miles away.
With a ridiculous plot for how it ends, and with characters that seem to be played by a group of amateurs this film is so far one of the worst things I've seen this year.
