When I hear people talk about returning abortion rights to the states they often make it seem like a lot of the states set to ban or heavily restrict abortion have a populace that feels that way. But the overall polling obscures that there are quite a lot of people that are against abortion bans in these states.
10 states set to ban or heavily restrict abortion if Roe is overturned have majorities that support abortion access. 4 of those 10 have strong majorities of 10-20 points.
9 states set to ban or heavily restrict abortion have weak majorities that are against abortion access.
Even in the 7 states in the Deep South that have strong majorities against abortion access, we are still talking about only 10-20 point majorities.
I don't know if this sentiment will be enough to cause political fallout in these states, but I think it is important to recognize that there are a lot of people in these states that don't share the viewpoint on abortion that will be imposed on them by their state government.
