Head of the AEIOU, Ellis Cameron-Perry, represents Adrealm at GMTIC
SHANGHAI — The Executive Director of Adrealm’s Think Tank, Dr Cameron-Perry, appeared on a panel convened at the Global MarTech Innovation Conference in Shanghai on November 16, 2018. Four other speakers took part in the discussion moderated by Alvin Foo, Managing Director at IPG Reprise China: Andy Ann, CEO and Founder of NDN Group; Joe Wong, GM Integrated Marketing Services; William Bao Bean, Investment Partner at SOSV and Managing Director at Chinaccelerator.
What is blockchain?
The conversation began with Mr Foo asking Dr Cameron-Perry the simplest of questions: what is blockchain?
The brisk and frank exchanges that followed covered the role of middlemen and service-intermediaries in blockchain use-case scenarios, thoughts on the nature of “the perfect ecosystem,” and best-guesses as to when blockchain technology will become more widely distributed.
“If you’re looking for good answers about the use-distribution and adoption of blockchain technology, don’t rest content with the answers offered by the token-punters” Cameron-Perry said. “Blockchain isn’t ‘coming.’ It’s here.”
The panelists seemed to agree on a number of points, including the future of marketing agencies. “Smart application and wise use [of blockchain] will advance marketing, not drive it to extinction,” Cameron-Perry said.
The pain-points of the digital advertising industry
Joe Wang identified an issue which lies at the hear of The Adrealm Foundation’s mission.
“Lack of transparency,” he said. “There is a lot of ad fraud, data leakage, there are a lot of numbers that you see from the report and you have no idea what those mean.” Mr Wong added that, with blockchain technology, “we can start to trust” the figures with which we’re now inundated.
And that is what Adrealm aims to create: An ecosystem where honesty represents the true incentive for all actors and trust naturally governs the environment.
Adrealm and Xhance
“It was tempting to use the stage to pitch Xhance, Adrealm’s cost-effective alternative to Appsflyer” Cameron-Perry said after the event. “As the conversation turned towards issues of transparency and ad fraud, I couldn’t help but think: these are exactly the problems our Adrealm ecosystem was designed to solve.”
“What we at Adrealm are creating is an ecosystem that will enable advertisers to have greater control over the data to which they have legitimate and ethical access,” he explained. “Currently, the kind of aggregation and control we see in the industry isn’t particularly conducive to innovation. This one of the things we aim to change.”
