Belut, also known as eel, is a type of fish that is enjoyed in various cuisines around the world. Here's a general recipe for preparing belut:
Ingredients:
Live eels (belut)
Cooking oil
Garlic (minced)
Shallots (sliced)
Ginger (sliced)
Soy sauce
Oyster sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
Lime wedges (for serving)
Fresh herbs (such as cilantro or parsley, optional)
Instructions:
Begin by preparing the live eels. If you have purchased them from a market, ensure they are cleaned and scaled. You can also ask the fishmonger to do this for you.
Once the eels are cleaned, you can choose to either grill or cook them in a sauce. Here, we'll provide instructions for grilling the eels.
Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Meanwhile, marinate the eels with some minced garlic, sliced shallots, and ginger. You can also season them with salt and pepper according to your taste preference.
Lightly brush the eels with cooking oil to prevent sticking to the grill.
Place the eels on the grill, cooking them for about 5-7 minutes on each side until they are cooked through and nicely charred. Cooking times may vary depending on the thickness and size of the eels, so adjust accordingly.
While the eels are grilling, prepare a sauce by mixing soy sauce and oyster sauce in a small bowl. You can adjust the quantities of the sauces to your liking.
Once the eels are cooked, remove them from the grill and serve them hot. Drizzle the sauce over the eels or serve it on the side as a dipping sauce.
Garnish with fresh herbs, such as cilantro or parsley, if desired. Serve the belut with lime wedges on the side for an added tangy flavor.
