Self medication is an act/culture of taking drugs without doctor's prescription. The following can lead to self medication :
- high cost of the drugs,
- insufficient time to reach out to doctors,
- fear that doctor may not reach out to the merit of their situations, and
- ignorance.
This habit has gone viral in our society. The health organisation had preached against it but instead, most people turned deaf hear to them.

Self medication has done more harms than good. It has wasted lives of many people especially the poors and ignorant.
I had experienced how a man faced the consequences of self medication. Relax and checkout how his story went.
There was a man named Mr Alebiosu. He was a secretary in one reputable company in Nigeria. He suffers from migraine. He refused to visit doctor due to his time factor. During that time, Alabukun drug was in existence. He got the news that this drug was 'Jack of all trade'. He started taking the drug. Fortunately, the drug worked effectively for him.
He started taking it several times in a day on a regular basis. He even went to the extent of sniffing the drug - 'drug addiction'.
Many years after, the symptoms like
- jaundice
- ascites
- nausea
- weight loss
- bleeding
- loss of appetite
- fatigue appeared.
He broke down and was rushed to the hospital.
He was diagnosed to have 'Cirrhosis' (improper function of the livers due to developed liver disease.). Several efforts was put in order to cure him but unfortunately it was too late. Few months later he 'kicked the basket'.This was so painful.!

What caused his death?
Our liver is a largest organ in our body. It deaminate and detoxify our blood. This liver has done great task in trying to fight against the -abused alabukun which are viewed as poison. People that knew him very well said it was not only Alabukun he abused.
His death was caused as a result of self medication, drug abuse coupled with drug addiction.
