Let's first start with a bit of history.
The Airbus A380 was launched in 2007 and was dubbed the superjumbo. It was given given this nickname for a reason, just look at how gigantic it is :
It took everything that made the previous Boeing 747 an icon and pushed it to the limits of modern engineering. However the mighty Airbus A380 is looking a little bit sad nowadays. What was supposed to be a game-changing aircraft is now fighting to survive. With room for 800 passengers, a double-deck design, and its shear size means that it is one of the most expensive airplane ever built.
BUT in a very elastic market with the ever-fluctuating price of fuel and its very own characteristics that made it stand out from the crowd may have doomed it.
It is just too freaking expensive to fly and it is also difficult to find 800 passengers at once for a flight.
Regardless, no one can deny the marvelous engineering of the A380.
Now enough of history lesson (I almost fell asleep :p) and lets get to the deal
I've traveled from Mauritius to Dubai and Bangkok in that flying bus. My longest flight was around 9hrs.
Firstly since this is a really large aircraft, the boarding experience can be quite painful as you have to wait in line for what seems to be an eternity (however this is not always the case).
Once inside the plane you will notice just how much extra space there is compared to other planes. The seats are large enough to fit everyone comfortably. The ride is extremely comfortable with very little turbulence. You almost forget that you are in an aircraft.
Plus there is extra leg space and room to walk around during those long hours of international flight. Now what can you do to entertain yourself during a flight :-
- The IFE screens are larger than usual which makes for a more pleasing experience. The software inside those tablets is named ICE. It contains most films and TV shows from all kind of different studios in many languages.
- The flight cameras, especially the one in the tail can provide an spectacular view, particularly during landing and takeoff.
- There are extra toilets so you don't have to wait around looking like a creep.
Now let's get to the cons, oh wait there is none ;)
The only thing I don't like, not related to the plane, is the babies crying. This really irritates me, even though its not their fault.
Overall I'll give the Airbus A380 a score of 8/10
This is my first real article on Steemit. Tell me how you find it in the comments.
