Hi Steemians!
Just a quick sharing of my big step in self-improvement, and precisely of getting rid of dependency on alcohol.
Well, first of all, it is definitely not easy. My first attempt to do so was about 3.5 years ago. It lasted about 60+ days then, but then a peer pressure 'oh, how so you would not try this beer with us', and week determination let me down. So, to begin with, don't get disappointed if it does not happens at first attempt.
I once read about a good technique of setting 3 types of goals: the goal itself, minimum and maximum. Let's say you set a target: not to drink until next Friday. That is your goal. You ease it a little bit by saying, ok, if I feel strong urge I might have a drink on Wednesday, and that will be fine - not a sin. If you happen to withstand for 2 weeks, that is like you have done double of the plan - you are super cool! So if you hit any of the 3 you feel yourself good. If you go lower than minimum, then you should criticize yourself, and start again but this time with no failing! So if you passed the test for the week target (middle goal), set it higher next time - go for couple of weeks. And be proud of yourself with every target you achieve.
It is hard at first but as you reach more days, you get more proud of yourself, feels like you almost want to put it on your CV: I am so cool, I can manage addiction to such a poison that ruined so many people's lives in history of mankind!
Also, good to be busy with family and your project so that you don't drift away if you happen to be bored.
Good luck and hope my short article will help you to be on the path of health!
