History
AMD couldn't keep up with its only competitor Intel at the time and was expected bankrupt. In 2017 the first Ryzen 1000 Series launched and had massive success among users due to its efficiency and price per performance.
Zen 4, codename: "Raphael" (new generation)
AMD announced the new generation this fall (expected 15th september) and will be even stronger than the current generation. The AM4 Socket was based on PGA before, which means that the pins are on the CPU and going in the motherboard but the new AM5 socket is based on LGA like Intel CPU's, which means that the pins are on the motherboard.

note: new AMD processors will still be compatible with AM4 coolers!
Performance comparision
It was downscaled because of the width and therefore a little low resolution, im sorry! I took the Ryzen 7 of all of these generations as a reference and the price of the Ryzen 7 7700X may vary to release.
And to finish this article up I will show you this picture of the unique looking die of the new ryzen CPU's. Feel free to ask questions in the comments!
