Here I was just sitting at home last night and noticed police lights everywhere. Me and my buddy Fred walked out the front door to find a young man being handcuffed next to his car by an Oklahoma highway patrolman. The kid was cuffed, searched, and put in the patrolman's car as a local Talihina cop showed up. The two cops then preceded to tear this poor kids car up. As we sat there filming this scene me and Fred started talking about respect for police. I personally don't have any friends who have any respect for police ( or order followers in general ). That goes for me as well!
The fact that nobody has any respect for police became quite apparent as people gathered to watch. Jeers like "hey did you find a seed" and "look at these idiots" where heard all around! It's all about drugs here, there is little real crime to be found!!! The cops seemed to notice my big camera and made an effort to stay out of my view. In there attempt to stay out of my view they obscured there view of the OHP's car and after about a half an hour the kid in the cop car somehow got out of the car and took off running down the street. The cop's didn't see a thing because they where around the other side of the car, hiding from my camera.
At this point laughter broke out and the cop's just looked at us like " what's the problem with these idiot's". It was about 10 min after that the OHP officer notices his prisoner is gone when he goes walking by his car. A keystone cop scene then breaks out with these idiot's running around like the most dangerous person in Oklahoma is on the loose! The OHP joker decides he's going to come over to our group and question. He really didn't seem to surprised that he was met with such disrespect. Several people laughed at him and most just said they didn't see nothing. This guy then walks up to me looking at my camera and says " what, you don't like cop's or something?". I simply responded " I don't answer questions " and he walked off disgusted.
Over the next few hours you would of thought there was a prison break as many OHP's, Laflore co. sheriffs, and local cop's showed up to look for this kid. A sickening display of authoritarians determined to track down this kid who dared to escape from custody. They searched all night but the kid was long gone. Cut to this morning and the police are everywhere!!! I walked behind Pam's diner and there was 2 OHP's,2 unmarked, 3 locals and 2 sheriffs cars. Walked around on Dallas St. and noticed 2 more. The whole town is literally swarming with police.
I tell the story of this poor kid because it sparked a lot of talk among those gathered around observing our police state in action. The hatred between those gathered and the police was palpable on both sides! I'm talking about real hatred here!!! This is a small town in southeast Oklahoma where people have traditionally been so pro law enforcement it's enough to make you sick.
As I look around today and see my town swarming with police, I saw something telling. A young man walking past an authoritarians car parked outside subway and spitting right on the window. He didn't run off or act like he did anything wrong, just walked by like a boss. Should I be proud that his generation is waking up and seeing the power structure for what it is or scared that this kind of hatred and disrespect could lead to civil war?
I choose to be proud! Fuck the police!
