Are you still using a device with Android 4.1? then you must change your device right away.
Google, recently announced and showed off their developer's preview of the brand new Android P and it looks like this version of Android will require a minimum API level of 17, which means that it will require a minimum API level as same as Android 4.2, which brings us back to the conclusion as to why you should change your device.
If your device is below Android 4.2, that means your device will have an API level less than 17, that also means that your device will no longer support some apps.
So what will happen if you try to install an app on your old device? The answer is simple, Google just won't let you install them, it will simply show an incompatibility message.
