Grasshopper is a herbivorous insect of the suborder of Caelifera in Orthoptera order. This insect has an antenna that is almost always shorter than its body and also has a short ovipositor. The sound generated by some grasshopper species is usually produced by rubbing the rear femur against the front or abdominal wings (called stridulation), or by flapping its wings while flying. The rear femur is generally long and strong which is suitable for jumping.
These insects are generally winged, although their wings are sometimes unavailable to fly. The female locusts are generally larger than the male mantis.
In Islamic Religion, Grasshopper is one of two animals that when it first dies is still lawful to eat, along with Fish.
In some countries, locusts are consumed as a source of protein. For example in southern Mexico, chapulines are favored because of their high protein, mineral, and vitamin content. Grasshoppers are usually collected at dusk, with the aid of a lamp or flashlight, using a broom net. In some countries in Africa, grasshoppers are an important source of food other than some other types of insects. Grasshoppers are a source of protein and fat for daily diets, especially during a food crisis. Usually grasshopper cooked soup.
