Work on the American series Sword Art Online has been going on for some time. Daylight saw new information.
The screenwriter, and both executive producer of the series, Laeta Kalogridis (Altered Carbon), recently gave an interview to Collider. She revealed that the production was purchased by Netflix, and that the main characters - Kirito and Asuna - will be played by Asian actors.
Kalogridis stated that SAO is part of Japanese pop culture and the main characters are clearly of Japanese descent. He does not intend to change it. She also added that other characters like Klein and Agil probably do not have Asian roots, so we can expect them to be played by American actors.
