Over the last years Arsenal fans have been getting more and more heated towards their beloved manager Arsene Wenger. In this post I will explain why I think he should have been fired way sooner, but I will also try to explain this situation from different perspectives.
First of all, let's explain how Wenger got so much credit from the Arsenal camp. Ignorant fans that take their "Wenger out" comments way too far often forget the impact this man had on the club. At one point in time Arsenal was even dubbed as The Invincibles because they were unbeatable during this period. Arsene Wenger created an amazing team and playing style that's still regarded as one of the best ever.
The current players of Arsenal are honestly not near the players he had back then, just look at players like Sol Campbell, Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira. These players were not only amazing individually but they carried their own team into new levels of passion. Arsene Wenger has always tried to replicate the compact and enjoyable style he created back then, but this is simply not possible with the players he bought during the horror years of Arsenal . Whether it be talented players that failed to reach their potential or old players that Wenger kept for too long, we can't deny Wenger made some bad decisions in terms of picking out players.
Right now, I think Wenger still deserves respect for the amazing things he did for Arsenal, but just like some of the older players he denied to bench or sell, he's turned into a watered down version of himself. Buying an Ozil or Sanchez after finally realizing he needs to spend some money to box with the Chelsea's and Manchester City's doesn't help either since he still doesn't buy enough of these players. Just look at Sanchez leaving, he was happy when he joined but he left cause he saw no future prizes or a potential project that would bring Arsenal to a whole new level.
Right now I think it's time for Arsenal to finally make the decision and sack him, other top teams such as Barcelona had no problem cutting off their heroes (Guardiola, ...), which is something you have to do even though said person has a big reputation. Younger Arsenal fans that grew up in the horror-era of Wenger need to realize he's still a legend, a long gone one that created some amazing moments in all of football... but it's time to go Arsene.
