April 2019 Title Page
Hello my friends,
The new month means it's time to update my bullet journal and set up some new pages for the month of April. I've been trying to keep things very simple this year as keeping a bullet journal can be a very time consuming activity particularly if you're a perfectionist like me... I am my own worst critic but at the same time, it's also something I'm learning to ignore.
I started with a pencil sketch of a ribbon that twists down the page and thought this would be a great design to use as there are two very clear areas where I could place the headings for April and 2019.
The next step was to ink in the details using Copic Fine Liners (0.5mm, 0.3mm). After tracing the outline, I added some 'stitching' along the edge of the ribbon for decoration.
Next, I added some shading details with vertical lines and cross-hashing for the darker areas to give it some dimension and depth.
The last thing to add was the headings and I used small lines to make up the word APRIL because I wanted it to appear as though it had been hand-stitched.
Even though I used a different font for 2019, the two dashes on the rounded parts of the numbers are reminiscent of an embroidery stitch that I remember seeing once... (I think it's used to create daisies, so it's probably called a daisy stitch..?) but still, it is a type of stitch and therefore 'fits' with the overall design.
My last step was to add some colour and for this, I used watercolour pencils and a brush pen to create some subtle shades of colour.
My colour choice (Blue, Orange) was especially selected to provide maximum contrast..... nah, just kidding... Would you believe they were the only two colours I could find? so basically, they were the only ones that made the cut... and the other pencils? well, they missed it by 'that' much.
Anyhoo, this colour scheme must have been a good match for my mood today because once I'd finished, my inner critic was strangely quiet and had absolutely nothing to say...!
