Hi Steemians,
I'm happy to share another mixed media art piece in my series from Rome, Italy. I've posted a number of times about other mixed media art pieces I created while in Rome if you're interested in checking them out. Throughout my life I've enjoyed art of all kinds, from drawing to photography to music producing and while in Rome I was as active as ever in creating art and documenting the place. I photographed everything, drew everything I could and just absorbed the amazing city.
This particular art piece is somewhat of a collage overall. Usually I would take a photo of one location and print it out on a large piece of paper at 25% opacity and then do all kinds of crazy art and layering and drawing on top of the print. But in this particular case I actually photographed and collaged two different locations together. One was the Temple of Hercules and the other was a typical Roman street that was just around the corner from the famous monument. The structure is from the 2nd Century BC and is in incredible condition. The architecture is amazing.
My art piece layers the different elements of the city in somewhat of a chaotic manner. I think the art piece stays true to the identity of Rome - the beautiful, historical monuments of the past are completely intertwined and built into the living, breathing city of the present. The separation of newer and older is only mental, not physical. It all exists as one today and I think that's what I was trying to capture in this art piece.
Some of the closeups show the texture and layers of crazy patterns and colors involved in the art piece. I think the first closeup and the last closeup are my favorites. They both have some very intense splatters of paint, textures, very dark darks, pops of color and light lights. What do you think? Is this piece a little too crazy? Hope you enjoyed!
Ciao for now, Steemians.
