A bit of background

Have you ever heard about string art? Those awesome compositions made with a string or thread, connecting nails fixed in the wood? My idol is Kumi Yamashita, an artist who created exceptional string art pieces. Check out her works here. You may easily understand what's going on by zooming and looking at those works. Nais get connected with a thread.

So what?

What I'm doing is a distinct string art, which is the whole new way of doing string art. It rests upon conventional string art and math.

This is one of my first works, the No-face from Spirited Away by Studio Ghibli:

How's that done?

Technically, I don't rely on nails positioning across the board to produce the string drawing. On the opposite, I connect 200 equidistant nails on the circumference in a tricky sequence, which reveals an image inside the circle. Simply put, it's a kind of magic.

You might imagine how it feels when you see it from distance, then approach closer and it dissolves in a random net made with just one looooooong string. There are no nails inside the circle, only string, filling it with variable density produced by its trajectory.

I do my works on 76x76cm base of white plywood, and it takes up to few kilometers of thread to do each one of them. But that's not what I want to impress you with...

I'm here to share a piece of my life with you. I'll keep posting my works and whole sets of them to illustrate application of the new expressive means that distinct string art technique yields.
