Bone Piling, Acrylic on paper, 2016
Back when I first started painting I intended on being mostly wildland firefighting themed (hence the name “Drip Torch Studio”) but it hasn’t worked out that way. Here is one example of a firefighting theme. These guys are doing what is known as “bone piling”, which is the practice of picking up the dead wood within a burned area and piling it up to make sure it’s completely consumed.
I don’t think the painting is terrible. There are areas that I probably could have spent more time on.
What sticks out the most?
The lack of PPE. Neither of them have a fire shelter. That’s going to bug me forever now.
I’m posting every painting I have ever done from 2014 to the present, the good, the bad, and the ugly. With an occasional photograph or sketch thrown in just to mix things up. Check back daily to see my progression as an “artist”!
