Hey dear Hive friends, as always I would like to wish you a good day and hope you are all doing well! In this post I would like to write something about one of my favorite minerals and hope you find the post interesting.
Lapis Lazuli which is also known as Lazur, can be seen here and in the past I have already written a little more about it and in my new post I would like to specifically discuss mythology and symbolism. Lapis lazuli has been highly appreciated since ancient cultures and is especially associated with ancient Egypt and was already very revered by pharaohs and worn as jewelry. Lapis Lazuli is also associated with the zodiac sign Sagittarius and the planet Jupiter.
Often the mineral is associated with mysticism and heaven and can be seen as a bringer of wisdom. It is also known as a sign of power as well as supernatural powers and can help to improve and activate the psychic abilities. The ancient Romans thought the mineral could be used as an aphrodisiac and it was often associated with love and joy. For ritual purposes, it can be found in many different cultures and there are numerous legends about it that it can protect against negative influences.
Lapis Lazuli was processed into different pieces of jewelry by many old blacksmiths and still enjoys great popularity today. There is a legend that the King Salonmon of Israel worn a lapis lazuli ring which gave him special power with which he could talk to plants and animals. In general, this ring made pretty much everything possible for him and he was also able to conjure and create supernatural things with it. Lapis Lazuli was also associated with the sumerian goddess of love and underworld and she has worn different jewellery which was made of Lapis Lazuli.
This mineral can also be found in Greek mythology and is associated with Hera, who is considered the queen of the gods in Olympus. With the growing popularity of this mineral in the Renaissance, trade also flourished more and more and lapis lazuli became a popular commodity. Of course, it was also a very appreciated mineral for the ancient alchemists, which was also assigned to its own symbolism.
Many thanks for stopping by and watching! I captured the pictures with my Sony Alpha 6000 and 55-210mm lens!
