Hey dear community, I hope you are all well and you have a weekend full of positive experiences! Today I would like to discuss an important historical topic and present two works of art and hope you can expand your knowledge.
You can see here three pewter figures which have been made very authentically and you can definitely see with what a high degree of detail they have been made. If you take a closer look at the figures, you notice with what a great attention to detail they were painted and nothing was left out and one figure presents the former King of Bavaria Ludwig II as well as Neuschwanstein Castle, which was built for him according to the style of the Middle Ages and the Linderhof Palace. The pewter figures come from Wilhelm Schweizer Pewter which has existed for more than 200 years and these works are only one of the many figures that reflect this remarkable art tradition. King Ludwig II was born in 1845 in Nymphenburg Palace as the son of Maximilian II Joseph (1811 - 1864) from the house of Wittelsbach and he was raised relatively strictly at that time and it was predetermined that he should once ascend the throne of his father and when his father died unexpectedly relatively early he came at the age of just 18 Years on the throne. During the beginning of his reign, he had to struggle with many hurdles and in this century there was an ever-growing industrialization as well as the foundation of the German empire in 1871, which had to follow that his rule was restricted. Early during his time as ruler there were military conflicts and in 1866 there was a conflict between Austria and Prussia and during this time Bavaria was allied with Austria and then the Bavarian and Austrian troops lost and as a result Bavaria had to form an alliance with Prussia. Just five years later, there was the next war and Bavaria fought alongside Prussia against France and the strong alliance won against France and it later came to the fact that Bavaria became part of the German Empire.
He also had the nickname Swan King and was generally known as a great promoter of art and he was particularly enthusiastic about the composer Richard Wagner (1813 - 1883) and he used pretty much every opportunity to visit his operas. He invested a lot in magnificent buildings and among his best-known are Neuschwanstein Castle, which is his best-known and inspires hundreds of thousands of visitors every year, as well as Linderhof Palace, Herrenchiemsee Palace, Hohenschwangau Castle or Berg Castle. During the construction of Herrenchiemsee Palace, which in addition to a retreat should also be a place for its water sports, there were some problems during the construction and so Ludwig II also became a promoter of shipbuilding and so he commissioned J. A. Maffei to build a ship that had the task of transporting the building materials to the island. In general, Ludwig II was considered very imaginative and he was known to sink a lot into his own world and in the coming years he bought a lot of property and often traveled through the area and was known to have been often in France and so he also visited the places of the coronation of the kings of France in 1875. Again and again he visited the performance of Richard Wagner and when his favorite artist died in 1883, Ludwig II became very sad and he traveled to Venice for his funeral. In the next few years he made many plans for new buildings of castles and in 1886 there were some problems in his life and he became very sick and could no longer govern due to the medical report and Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria takes over his reign and only a short time later he died unexpectedly and his death leaves many questions unanswered to this day and is considered relatively mysterious. Shortly before his death there were probably still some disputes and it even happened that he even had to leave his own castle and was attacked and there are many legends that revolve around his death and some strange things have happened and to this day you can find numerous monuments that have been erected to his honor.
