Good day dear Hive friends, first of all I would like to wish you all an great day and hope you are well! Here I would like to present pictures of a mineral and also go into mythology and hope you can learn something new.
Pictures of Obsidian can be seen here, which has already been regarded by ancient cultures as a protective stone and even today it is often associated with protection and it is also deeply anchored in mythology. In Mexican mythology, it has gained a particularly high priority and has played an important role and was known under the name Itzli and when it comes to ritual purposes such as ceremonies, it was of great importance. In ancient Mexico, Obsidian was also used as a raw material to make figures, sculptures or weapons from it and old finds confirm that the ancient Aztecs have probably already made mirrors from it. The ancient Aztecs were generally known for having produced mirrors from this mineral and according to legends it was also consecrated to the god Tezcatlipoca and people could allegedly obtain prophecies with the help of this mirror.
According to the belief of the Aztecs, they see smoke in the mirror and if it has disappears, you can see far away places or look into the future. Obsidian was also associated by the Aztecs with the god Ītzpāpālōtl who was known as a fighter who ruled over Tamoanchan and it was also associated with the mother goddess Coatlicue who is also known as the earth goddess. The production of mirrors from Obsidian was also very popular in the Middle Ages and there it was also revered as a magical mirror around which many supernatural legends have revolved. Due to creation, which can be traced back to volcanic activity, it is also associated with the element fire and it has already gained a high priority among the ancient Maya and was very important for the production of technologies and has also shaped the trade of the Maya.
Obsidian from other cultures was also of great importance to create tools and weapons such as arrows, swords, knives or other objects such as works of art. Operational tools were also made from Obsidian and it was used as a material by different cultures and even today it still enjoys great popularity. The best-known traditions of myths around Obsidian probably come from ancient Mexico, which is also one of the most important places of discovery, but this unique mineral can also be found in Greek mythology and it was associated there with the god of the underworld Hades and the ancient Greeks also saw it as a mineral with protective properties.
