In this blog I will show you my step-by-step tutorial on how to draw a dog using this four numbers 8-6-1-1. I learned this technique when I was a kid, I saw it on an art show on TV but I forgot the name of the show. Ever since I always use this technique whenever I draw dogs.
In this artwork I used the Ipad Pro and Apple Pencil, but you can also use a computer mouse or a pen tablet on Photoshop.
Let's start.
Step 1:
Draw the numbers 8-6-1-1, visualize the dog in a sitting position.
Step 2:
Draw a rough sketch of the dog. By this time you should already have decided what breed and type of dog you are drawing. In this tutorial I draw a young golden retriever. Just draw the basic shape of it. As you can see the size of the numbers depends on what breed of dog you are drawing.
Step 3:
Start painting the entire body. Use a textured brush then set the flow and opacity to medium.
Step 4:
Once you are done putting the basic colors and shading of the dog it is time to put some minor details. Pick the SMUDGE tool then choose a textured brush, set the flow and hardness to medium. This tool will help you to create strands of dog hair. Just smudge it lightly to achieve a realistic effect.
Ste 5:
Draw the eye, nose and the mouth. When drawing the eye and the mouth of a golden retriever dog try to make it smile because this dog looks like they are always smiling. It is always better to create another layer so you can still edit it if needed soon. Just play around with the shapes and colors to achieve a realistic effect.
Step 6:
Time to add more details. Again with the combination of the brush tool and the smudge tool. Just brush and smudge it lightly to create a smooth furry effect.
Step 7:
Lastly add more texture by painting more highlights and the shadows of the subject. Be generous on painting the hair because this dog has a thick and long strands of fur.
Once you are happy with the result you can now stop.
I also put her on a grassy mountain scene. She looks so happy maybe because of the fresh air from the mountains. Ain't that cute :3

Looking forward in doing more tutorials for my fellow aspiring artists here on Steemit.
