I have been thinking about habit manipulation a lot lately. Some complexes after being ingrained are extremely hard to remove. Smoking for example combines an oral stimulus while hooking the user with a powerful chemical dependency. That's one strong demon to be tamed.
As seen by the success of nicotine vaporizers, modifying an existing habit should be easier than entirely removing it. A habit is typically triggered into mind by a certain stimulus and within those split nanoseconds we're given the opportunity to rewire ourselves. Continuation of the habit will reinforce it, while a strong mental warrior may be able to entirely nullify the activated complex entirely allowing the complexes energy to leak into other areas of life for better or worse.
Homeostasis is defined as "the tendency toward a relatively stable equilibrium between interdependent elements, especially as maintained by physiological processes.".
If I'm always unconsciously moving towards homeostasis any needed adjustments would always seem easy and obvious. Adjoining the habit of moment to moment awareness with self control makes things easier, funnier, and sexier. Dialog between the self regarding what's going on is needed but can be playful and fun. How do you treat yourself?
I've been trying to meditate daily so I created a little trigger today, I set the coffee to start brewing itself at 4AM knowing I will be up then. Then after one cup of coffee I meditate for 10 minutes. It will be instantly obvious to me if I fail or succeed. If i win I can mark an X on the calendar after meditate. If i lose I gotta pull two ball hairs at the same time.
