Ahhhh Saturday, my favorite day of the week in the current chapter of my life.
My week has gone well as work weeks go. Nothing amazingly exciting happened, but nothing too bad either, so I'm calling it all good. Although I got up every day on my own and I've gotten around on my own every minute, so at my age, maybe I should count that as amazingly exciting...LOL
As per usual, I've dabbled at my art table every evening. Here are a few things I've come up with.
I made this a couple of weeks ago. I had made some new collage papers and I tore a strip from some that I really liked and those are what created the background on this one. I added some contrasting circles and a few black ink squiggles and called it FUN! Fun and Done rhyme, so I'm using them interchangeable.
This one also used some of those new papers. Although none of the paper designs were plaid, I somehow got a plaid vibe from it once I was done. Several of the papers have red lines and then with the dark blue too, that's just what my brain said....plaid.
Now a short story about something that happened last Sunday. This is a little detour, so it's not ALL about my wonky fun art.
I was coming back from the visit with my Mom and decided to stop at a Dollar General store for a box or two of kleenex. I had let myself run out and so I was going to get some more. I got my kleenex and wandered around the store, getting some other stuff I forgot I needed....LOL ! When it was time to check out, I got in line. Just as I stopped, a young boy scooted past me and got in line in front of me. I am terrible on guessing children's ages, but if I had to guess, I would say 8'ish. He had an item or two in his hands and he did a quick glance back at me and turned back away. I didn't care. He was a child and I am an adult and I wasn't in a hurry at all. Quite honestly, I never let things like that bother me. In a few seconds, I saw him look back behind me and then he turned and went back to join his mother who was next in the line. I heard her voice, low and calm. I could not hear what she was saying, but the boy stayed with her then and did not try to come back to his spot.
After the clerk had rung up my purchases and I finished paying, I heard the boy's voice say "excuse me"...at first I didn't know he was talking to me, then he said it again. I turned to him and when I did, he apologized for cutting me off and said he shouldn't have done that. I smiled and told him that was ok and I'm sure my happy voice assured him I meant it. He apologized again and I assured him again it was truly ok and said I am not usually in a hurry anyway. His mother then kindly chimed in, said thank you and that it was a learning moment for him.
I admit I was really surprised she made him do that and I felt a little sorry for him as there was a long line of people behind us waiting to be checked out, so there was quite a large audience for his apology. Still.... I mentally applauded her effort to try to teach her son some social manners as it seems to me, that there is not a lot of that being taught these days. I may be wrong, but that is my opinion from the things I see.
Anyway, it was different enough that I thought I'd share it.
Now.... back to the crazy art!
I couldn't quite decide if this one was completed. I created what is here a couple of weeks ago. I liked what was here, but is it finished?? I used some pieces from a picture from a Sunflower book I found at Good Will and the long background pieces are strips of a page from another flower book. The smaller circles and dots and purple and yellow red bits of paper are from painted collage papers I previously made. I kind of like it, but that could be simply because it has so many bright colors. Bright colors make my brain spark.
I worked on this one last night. Some of the background papers were already there from some previous day, but it had a center medallion that I couldn't like, so I pulled it back out and worked on it a while. I think it is FUN!.... but something is telling me it might need a tiny piece of that brilliant pink somewhere in the center of the black and white semi-circle that is hanging on the top left. I don't know if I have anymore of that bright pink collage paper, but I may look a little later today. It doesn't need much and may be ok without it, but I will make the effort and see what happens, if anything. I kind of liked it's dark moodiness.
...and of course, we have to have a "little" to go along with it. FUN !
One more! I made this with just two pieces of collage paper that I painted before. I loved their colors and it was not my intent to only glue two pieces of paper on, but once I had them there, I wondered if that was enough. The paints and designs are already many layered. I always seem temped at this point to slap something black somewhere on things like these, for a focus, but I had somehow resisted that so far on this one. I did lay a black shape or two on it, but so far none of them turned me on, so for now, it still sits like this. From a little distance, that white strip that goes down from the top left of center, to the orange circle below, kind of looks like a sunray or .... some kind of light streaming down. You see that ... right???
😄
It may show better if you click the photo to come forward.
I know you can't tell it, but before I could type this sign-off, my phone pinged with a message that said my grocery delivery was here. It's already 82 degrees right after 11 am this morning (and the temp is supposed to get up to 90 degrees today), so I felt like I needed to stop and get them in before finishing as there is refrigerated stuff in it including a small container of Zesty Lemon Sorbet. Yum ! It was already soft as I dashed it into the freezer. It IS summer here after all and not so far from the end of June, so it is the right time to be hot.
Not inside though......
Once again, I hope you are all having a fun weekend.
