My latest portrait is done in ballpoint- and gel pen on A3 200gsm paper.
It's done in a very loose technique with an emphisis on the texture. You can clearly see the pen markings, sometimes a bit harsh. The face has an almost painterly feel to it if you look at it from a distance (you can make out "brush strokes.") I incorporated a circular background with both ballpoint- and gel pen.
