At the school where I teach there is a digital figure painting class. I don't teach it, but from time to time I get to sub it. Whenever I do I get that giddy feeling like I can't believe I'm getting paid to do this haha.
The face on this looks a bit weird because the model was under a spotlight and the edge of the shadow was right on his face. I could have changed it, but I wasn't that worried about painting his face. I can barely see far enough to make out the details, my eyesight isn't what it used to be.
There's so much more color information there when painting from life vs a photo. Lots of subtle temperature changes that end up getting flattened out in photography. Still can't beat first hand observation.
Here's how the painting progressed
Anybody here still regularly paint from life? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for looking peeps!
