I remember when painting this, the guys little head tilt kept screwing me up. You can see it in the process how much the features move around. Something little like that can really throw me off at times.
Also took a pass at this with Paintstorm Studio. I didn't paint the original in Paintstorm, I just went over it a little to experiment with some of the blending and used in in the background a bit. Really looking forward to when I have more free time to play with that.
Here's the process

As I've mentioned before, I usually start with a crappy sketch that I don't spend much time on. The reason being, with Photoshop or just digital painting in general, I can correct as I go. You can see that happening a lot here. The original drawing was WAAAY off, but you can just move things around as needed.
Then I block out colors under the sketch on a new layer, then make all other layers above the sketch and just paint everything on top.
