Dear friends,
This week is quite hardcore for me because I had my wisdom teeth (quite dramatically and painfully) removed, which didn't make me wiser at all, but made my humor black-ish for sure. Hence I just felt like participating in the recent ART EXPLOSION WEEK 22: Theme VICES and post something a bit more cynical than my usual sweet whimsical Shiny Forest postcards ;) Did you have a dramatic 2018 intro as well? Once again I'd like to wish you all the best in New Year! :)
Thank you @juliakponsford for organising this great contest!
I drew this piece couple of months ago, and translated it to English with the use of GIMP. At the bottom I show you the original artwork in Polish, with my handwriting ;)
The comic is about a hare who, in face of a problem getting worse, adopts one hell of a stratety: denial. I wanted this comic to be more tragicomical than grim, so I made the hare look different in each frame and tried to exaggerate the illustrations to give the comic strip an overall absurd and funny look. The water that is flooding hare's apartment represents the problem getting more and more severe. This is of course based on my own feelings and experiences, from time to time I guess I feel like this hare.
Pen and ink on paper, each 29,7 x 21 cm
I have no big experience with drawing comics, but maybe I will create some more in the future :) The creative process behind it was quite spontaneous, I'm sure I could have drawn frames much better than how it turned out, but I haven't figured out yet what would look really good instead of this thin black lines.
I started with pencil sketch, attacked the drawing with rubber repeatedly, redrew the lines with pen and that's all. In the English version I also removed some ink stains while working on the text (using GIMP).
This particular comic strip was an experiment to see how do I manage delivering narrative through the graphics. I dream of game design one day so it would be nice to enhance some storytelling skills of mine.
Here's the original artwork in Polish (I'm not sure if my translation to English was very good, I think I've done poorly, but you know... that's just the spirit of this painful, toothless and dark week ;) ):
Thank you so much for reading, and please let me know what you think!
Soon I'll be posting another classic Shiny Forest picture with GIF :)
LOVE,
Klaudia!
