Here's my entry for @jacinta.sevilla 's art contest. What we were supposed to draw was a baby dragon sitting on a samurai's shoulder or hand. But after I read the story behind this theme, this is what I had in mind. I tried to stick to the story as much as possible but I also added what I think would make it look a lot better. And I suck at doing backgrounds T.T Could've left it as plain white but it looked too plain.

Story(quick version)

• A samurai in his 20s fought for his emperor.
• He was one of the few remaining samurais alive out of 3000.
• Emperor rewarded him with a young waifu and a mansion for his loyalty and service when he grew older.
• One day, his mansion burned down while he was away and his wife and pre-born kid died in the fire.
• Samurai came back and picks up their corpse and holds them close to him.
• Their bodies turned into ashes but in its place, a baby dragon came forth.
• Emperor wants the dragon for himself but the samurai refuses so he flees the country.

Process

What I had in mind.

FOR SOME REASON I THOUGHT HE WAS STILL IN HIS 20S SO I GAVE HIM A JACKED BODY. But it didn't matter in the end since I covered it up.

Samurai. Not the one most people have in mind. I think most people's definition of a samurai is someone in a suit of armor and a katana. But there are also those that wear robes and that's the one I chose. And since he was away while his mansion burned down, there's no way he would walk around in a suit of armor, right?
