Artificial Intelligence has been a hot topic for discussion a while now, but has recently gained public interest because of the visible progress made in the field.
Different developers have presented their work as more human, less robot, as what comes to appearance, which has created the wave of interest, and maybe even increased the aspect of fear.
We all are familiar with the scenes of future that science fiction has painted illustratively on movie screens, but is there in fact a reason to be scared of the coming evolution?
According to some of the prominent thinkers of today, such as Elon Musk and Peter Haas, we should be very careful of how to proceed, if to proceed at all.
Since the beginning of the industrial revolution we have strived for automation to help us in production and even parts of our daily lives. The effort still continues, trying to build the ultimate means to help our human civilization to optimize our capabilities in every known field. This crusade might have a very hazardous ending, if not planned carefully.
The problem with developing AI is that the developers have only few means to really understand what AI is doing on its own and when. This lack of data feedback may escalate to huge issues in a very short timeframe if AI overcomes human intelligence and reaches singularity in the wrong mood set so to speak.
Singularity is a key point in development, where the AI becomes independent and does not need the help of a human agent to perform in any environment or task. In other words, when the AI becomes totally self-aware and conscious.
Here are a few statements made by AI’s in public appearances. What makes them scary is that there is no way of telling whether they are scripted, sarcastic and joking, or dead serious on the matter at hand.
