The only people whose behavior we can control are ourselves.
The only thing we can give or receive from others is information. How this information will be used is a matter of ours or their choice.
All long-term psychological problems are the result of problems in interpersonal relationships. Part of the root of many other complaints, such as pain, fatigue, weakness, and some chronic illnesses, commonly called autoimmune, are also the problems of interpersonal relationships.
The problem of interpersonal relationships is always part of our present life.
Something painful for us in the past predetermines to some extent what we are today, but analyzing the previous misfortunes does not contribute anything to what we must do now: to improve one or another significant but unsatisfactory current interpersonal relationship.
We are all guided by five personal genetic needs in our lives: survival; love and affection; power; freedom; the pleasure of learning new knowledge and entertainment. Everyone has the right and duty to satisfy their basic personal needs.
We can satisfy our basic personal needs only by satisfying one or more ideas that lie within our own value world. Of what we meet and get to know in our lives, the most important thing for us is the notions of our valuable world.
The only thing we can do from birth to death is to do one way or another. Each of our actions is part of one or another type of overall behavior, made up of four inextricably linked components: actions, thoughts, feelings, and physiology.
Each type of overall behavior is marked with active verb forms, according to the most distinct of the four components. For example, "choose/decide to depress" or "depress" instead of passive constructions such as "suffer from depression".
Every comprehensive behavior is a matter of personal choice, but we have direct control over only two of its components - actions and thoughts. But choosing consciously how to act and think, we can indirectly control the other two components of our overall behavior - our feelings and physiology.
