ANOTHER BIRD VISITOR
Last yearvwe had two occasions on which a bird came into our home. In both cases, it didn’t take long to help her find her way out.
But this year, we had a new visitor - and she was far more determined to stay inside than our previous guests.
I worked at it on my own for a while but ultimately we were trying to head out and get on the water, and since she had a nest with babies on our front door, it felt very important to help her find her way back to her children before leaving.
So I employed my oldest daughter to help coral the bird towards the open door.
I came through the kitchen and confronted the bird from the right, and told my daughter to juno and swing her arms if the burd came towards her…but she ducked lol!
When the bird veered left and headed back in, as opposed to making a right and leaving the house, my daughter followed her natural instincts and ducked out of her way 🤣
…so she flew into our living room.
Now, at this point that was a few days ago, and I have no way of confirming whether she escaped while I was loading the boats or if she found a good place to hide - but we searched high and low and never found her, so eventualky we decided she must have left.
Once the boats were strapped securely to the roof of the csr, we did one more sweep for our festhered friend, and then decided that either she had left, or she would be flapping around when we got home. So we closed up and headed out for breakfast.
BREAKFAST AT ETERNAL SUNSHINE
We decided to go to Eternal Sunshine - it’s a local place that’s known for phenomenal eggs benedict, but they also have a really good sweet and spicy chicken on a biscuit (that’s what I always get).
The wait was pretty short, I think we may have hung out for 10 minutes or so, but this place is pretty popular so that’s a short wait comparatively. Actually, by the time we were sat there was a line all the way back through the parking lot, so we got there just in time I guess.
It’s a small venue, but I think if they tried to upsize it it would lose some part of its appeal, so I’m glad they’ve stayed at their current location.
The whole place is covered in cool local art, and they even have a rad cherry tree inside. Its fake, but it still gives a nice touch.
I got the hot honey chicken on a biscuit, which I pretty much always get. They give a choice of sides, and I always go for the potatoes and the eggs…I like to add hot sauce to my eggs. At ho e i use ghost pepper or at least habanero sauce, but when i go out i take what i can get - which was Cholula in this case.
They also have here an eclectic selection of mimosas - so I got a jalapeño pineapple mimosa as well. I ate the jalapeño off the rim, but when my tongue got hot, the drink was unable to help since it was a bit spicy too :)
Breakfast was delightful. The kids ate really well and when it was time to go we were all very ready to get on the water :)
KAYAKING/PADDLEBOARDING TO SHARKTOOTH ISLAND
We decided to go to shark tooth island - if you soft the sand you are very liely to find shark teeth…so it’s not just a clever name 🤣
They even offer information on identifying shark teeth on their website (above).
After not long at all, we were in the water.
We cruised by a pier that seemed to be completely owned by birds - my girls went nuts for that! They loved seeing the birds swoop down to catch fish :)
The trip across the intracoastal waterway takes about 15 minutes - it’s a very short trip, but you cant get there without a boat of some kind, so it feels very special to be able to experience it.
Once we were there, the girls enjoyed roaming and exploring the island and its surrounding waters. My wife and I sat in the warm shallow water and sifter for teeth whike the girls swam and ran around.
After we returned to the shore side, my wife gave our oldest daughter some lessons on the paddle board while i loaded up the kayak and other gear. I love seeing them work together like that :)
All in all we found 3 teeth. It was probably more accurately 2.5, but either way I didn’t find anything lol - it was all my wife and oldest daughter :)
A NICE EVENING AT HOME
When we got home, I unloaded the boats and gear while my wife made dinner for the kids. After they ate, we helped them make smores.
This memorial day weekend was super fun. We did do some laundry - we had to go to a laundromat because our washer is broken…more on that once I figure it out and fix it :) - and we did some general cleaning and lawn work, but even that was fun because we did it together :)
