You ever have a film that reminds you of high school.
For me it was Back To School. This was one of those films that always seemed on any party we went to. People were sitting around playing drinking games with this movie on the screen. Of course, in those days it was either via cable or on a VCR.
It was classic Rodney Dangerfield. I actually think he was better in this one than in Caddyshack, which is another all time classic.
Burt Young of Rocky fame also had a great part in this. He played Thorton's (Dangerfield) bodyguard/confidant/driver. Not known for his comedic awareness, Young showed a great sense of dry humor.
Looking it up on Wikipedia, it was a successful film at the box office, pulling in over $80 million. This means it was more than just a cult classic.
What I love about films from this era is that they were just good ole fashioned entertainment. This one in particular didn't have an agenda or message to convey. Just was a comedy meant to make people laugh.
As with most great cult classics, there were some lines which were memorable:
"Jason, you don't lie to me. You lie to girls."
"A-B-C. What's the difference. You're in the top 3."
Rodney was known for his stand up gigs. Anyone who wants to see him in action can pull up YouTube videos of him on Carson. He was a frequent guest always doing his routine.
However, I always enjoyed the movies he did. Caddyshack, Easy Money, and Back to School were hilarious.
What are your thoughts? Is this one of those films you enjoyed?
