Thomas is a big fan of great football, and he loves to watch matches like El Classico (Barcelona vs. Real Madrid). But, lately Real Madrid hasn't been good at the pitch, and many blame their coach Julen Lopetegui for that.
If the coach is the one to blame isn't something Thomas knows for sure, but as a Barcelona supporter, he thinks it could have been smart of Barcelona to lose the match. How come? It is mostly a joke, but still!
Imagine that the Real Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui isn't really capable of leading the team. As they lost the match, he would almost for sure be sacked, and now the rumors are spreading that Antonio Conte (former Chelsea and Juventus and Italy coach) will get the job instead, a way better coach than Julen Lopetegui.
But, if Barcelona would lose the match, Lopetegui might stay in Madrid, and Real Madrid will continue down their dark alley for more weeks before the coach is then finally sacked. But, by the time he is sacked, they have lost even more matches, and Barcelona has gotten an even greater advantage on their greatest opponent!
Still, Thomas isn't 100% serious about this. Last season, Real Madrid wasn't the greatest opponent in La Liga to FC Barcelona, but Atletico Madrid. It is very likely that it will be so in 2018-19 as well. As a result, FC Barcelona shouldn't really care about Real Madrid, because their greatest opponents for the La Liga trophy isn't Real Madrid, but Atletico Madrid (and maybe Sevilla).
As a conclusion, Barcelona should be really happy about beating Real Madrid 5-1. Thomas enjoyed the match, and he cannot possibly imagine any team in Spain that can compete with the Catalan club for the La Liga trophy in the 2018-19 season.
But, to be honest, for the sake of Real Madrid, it is for sure the best to see Julen Lopetegui sacked... and if Conte becomes the new coach, he might have exactly the charisma needed to bring Real Madrid back on track. And for the sake of the quality of La Liga, that would be a great thing!
Thomas normally writes about totally different topics, but today he got so sucked into the Spanish La Liga, that he just had to share his thoughts.
