So here I am, back to talk a little more about fantasy baseball. I know it's been a while since I've been here or made a post and for most of you your trade deadline has already passed if you're in a public league. But if it hasn't passed yet here are a few things to consider.
- Do you have a superstar on your team that has been struggling? If you have a superstar that has been struggling on your team, now may be the time to make a big move! Everyone loves having superstar veterans on their team down the home stretch of the season. You may be able to make a big move and acquire some of the help you need if you are in a tight race. Of course you'll also have to consider the fact that the superstar you've just traded may suddenly get hot and make you look like a chump on that deal!
- Taking advantage of injuries. Sometimes an injury pops up at just the right time. Did anyone else cringe when Nolan Arenado got hit in the hand by a pitch? Or a few days later with a hard liner that took him out of the game? I know I certainly didn't! I saw this as opportunity to get one of the best third basemen in the league on my team. That coupled with a Dodger's fan looking to make some moves for a late season push to try and claim second place in the pool. I was certainly willing to take a chance
and sent a trade offer over for Nolan Arenado, sending back the best closer in the game Keenly Jansen and a more than suitable replacement Anthony Rendon. I miss the best closer in the game but Arenado has been money in the bank! - Keeping the amazing rookie? Were you one of the guys that took a chance on Aaron Judge early in the season? That guy has been an absolute beast, but I don't think he has been the same since the home run derby. (and to be honest I think it takes a lot our of players as lots of them do struggle for a couple weeks after!) Now I can't say that I've currently gotten the best of this trade but I still think I was able to get the best first baseman in the league by sending Aaron Judge/Anthony Rizzo for Paul Goldschmidt/Andrew Benintendi. (But man Rizzo has been on fire ever since!)
I will say, having a comfortable lead in (one of) my pools has made it easier to make some of these trades. I prefer it over the Yahoo Public league for the sole reason that it is points based and I can analyze stats and see a direct relationship as to how the player will perform in my league. (The black marks are just covering the names of the people in my league for their own privacy)
However, I can't say that I have the same amount of success in the public league so far this season currently sitting 8/12. Maybe it's because there is 12 teams, maybe there are some really great fantasy players in that league as well. The injury bug hit me pretty good as well (only 2 DL spots available and there is 3 in the other league) I'm still determined to finish strong though if for no other reason than personal pride. If you happen to be in a Yahoo Public league and can tell me how their point system works it would be a great help and I would be very thankful! (all it really says is what you can get points for but it doesn't say how many points of what...)
Seeing as I kind of screwed up my introduction post I was never able to post a picture of myself. So for those of you wondering who the person behind the screen here I am.
