When Resident Evil took the world and PS1 by storm back in the mid 90's the gaming world was ready to jump on just any ol' game that promised somewhat similar play style.
I don't that people necessarily wanted Resident Evil to be copied exactly and then poorly made in a awfully put-together budget game that wasn't any fun though and that is precisely what Chaos Break is.

Instead of playing Jill or Chris from S.T.A.R.S. in Raccoon City you play as either Mitsuki and Rick, who are D.E.F agents which serve exactly the same purpose as S.T.A.R.S.. While you don't randomly encounter the mansion like you do in Resident Evil, you are on an island with a medical facility where strange things have been happening.
Then the story pretty much exactly follows what went on in Resident Evil. I'm mean, so closely that I can't believe that legal action wasn't taken. I would imagine that it was left alone by Capcom because Chaos Break was so laughably bad that there probably wasn't any money to sue the developers for anyway.

The graphics were OK, I would say right on par with R.E.'s but the gameplay was just downright stupid. The areas were filled with mostly nothing as you look for things to kill. Lo' and behold this facility has zombies and other creatures that were accidentally created by chemical experiments gone wrong... what a novel concept!
You spend a bunch of time simply wandering around facing off against nothing until you enter an area that triggers the next cinematic sequence of pixelated garbage with terrible voice acting that NEVER matched up with the subtitles on the screen. I can only imagine that the subtitles were hard coded into the game before they hired the voice actors.
Remember "Barry" from Resident Evil and how awful his voice acting was? Well imagine that everyone in the Resident Evil game talked like that.... now you have Chaos Break. It was fun when just one person was laughably bad, but when everyone does it, it stops being funny.

The spoken dialogue above was likely something along the lines of "that encounter was truly extraordinary, we threw everything we had at that guy and it was as if he didn't notice we were even there!"
Items you find don't make any sense that they would be where they are, the enemies for the most part are boring encounters that pose no threat whatsoever, and the "clop clop clop" sound of your footsteps never varies, always echos, and will haunt your dreams.
You could watch all of that video but i strongly encourage you not to.
This game should have never been made and it received entirely bad reviews, not that anyone would notice because this game was largely ignored by players and the few media methods that existed at the time.
Although I really don't think anyone should do so, a ROM of this game exists, and you can experience it in all its awfulness for FREE!
