Although all the gospels teach to us about the perseverance, there is one that stand out: the Gospel of John. The spiritual gift of perseverance is the daily determination to do good avoiding evil, its distinctive feature is the resistance.
Perseverance perfects integrity (ágape, the love of God), accompanies eternal life and the security in God until death, for what is spoken of the final perseverance of the saints.
The perseverance as all the spiritual gifts has 3 characteristics: is progressive, that is condition of way or path; is precision and accuracy, that is condition of truth, and increase the life, condition of life. The perseverance is way, truth and life (John 14:6).
This is the reason why when the error is presented to us the answer is "heresies that take us away from the path of perseverance".
Jesus teach to us to live the spiritual gifts we inherit from God, all the rest is heresy, that is, teaching of the error.
We have an example of perseverance in the gospel of John, the crucifixion of Jesus, John 19:1-22:
"Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged. The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head. They clothed him in a purple robe and went up to him again and again, saying, "Hail, king of the Jews!". And they slapped him in the face...So the soldiers took charge of Jesus. Carrying his own cross, he went out to the place of the Skull. There they crucified him, and with him two others - one on each side and Jesus in the middle."
Jesus does the job of carrying the cross even weakened because of the lashes, this is perseverance not fortitude or spritual gift of fortitude (continuous improvement), Jesus resists pain and fatigue until the end.
