When you think BIG DATA, well let me speak for myself. When I first thought about BIG DATA I imagined a huge deal of my personal data being collected by big corporate companies and government agencies. And that freaked me out. But that was before I really understood what BIG DATA really is. Before I understood how vital of a tool it can be to society. Which was mostly because I was focusing on one aspect of it. Because, like the term hacker(hopefully I’ll touch on the topic soon and we'll have a discussion), the term BIG DATA is mostly misused.
Privacy advocates are the number one misleading factors when it comes to BIG DATA. They make it seem like it’s all about user data compiled by online services and kept in private databases to exploit the mass population. While in fact it’s about a wide range of data types. I mean for example, We can predict the weather now, that’s BIG DATA. Scientific data from research used to develop better and advanced meds, that’s BIG DATA. And many more other examples. Anyway my point is with all these misconceptions, BIG DATA is actually a useful tool for the advancement of society.
wikipedia defines BIG DATA as any collection of data sets so large and complex that it becomes difficult to process using on-hand data management tools or traditional data processing applications. Analysis of data sets can find new correlations to spot business trends, prevent diseases, combat crime and so on.
*Imagine BIG DATA for marketing
*Imagine BIG DATA for Manufacturing
*Imagine BIG DATA for well informed decision making
Looking forward to discuss all of that and more with all of you here
