Just thought I would make this a public announcement since I just sent 5 Steem using an encrypted memo transfer to Binance and lost it.
Making an encrypted memo is as simple as putting the # symbol in front of anything in the memo field when making a transfer on Steem, be it SBD or Steem. This method works on Bittrex successfully obfuscating your memo but does not seem to work on Binance. I experimented and apparently I've lost 5 Steem! Sad, but whatever, it is the cost of experimentation.
If you are trading on Bittrex, you are safe to put a # before whatever your memo key must be when depositing and no one can see it besides you.
If you are trying on Binance you CANNOT use the # to obfuscate your deposit memo key, so leave it naked or else you will lose your funds.
I hope that this helps someone!
Happy Valentine's Day, my little babies! Love y'all forever.
