There are different modalities for the preparation of Efficient Microorganisms (EM), both in the solid phase and in the liquid phase, that depends a lot on the area and the availability of materials, it is necessary to take into account the following scheme.

▶ The first step is to collect decomposing litter from the soil of a mixed forest or from old plantations of coffee, cocoa, among others. Extend, in two or three layers, the materials used (one layer on top of the other).

For example: a layer of MM on the floor and, on top of it, a layer of rice semolina or corn flour. Moisten the previous layers with a solution of water with molasses. Make a new layer, in the same proportions, with the remaining materials and moisten again with the molasses solution.
Mix the materials placed in layers two or three times, until obtaining a homogeneous mixture with adequate humidity. To check the wet point, take a sample of the mixture with your hand and squeeze it. There should be a moist, easily decomposable lump that does not leak water.
Introduce the mixture to the barrel or plastic barrel, compacting it with your feet or with a wooden square, to avoid air pockets inside the container. Remember that an anaerobic fermentation process must take place (without the presence of oxygen).

Place the plastic lid, with its respective strap, on the barrel or barrel. Make sure that no oxygen enters the container. After 30 days of anaerobic fermentation, the solid MEs have reproduced and you can proceed to activate them.
