That’s because Boltt’s primary mission is to get your off your butt and motivated to adopt a healthier, more active, lifestyle.
Why? It should be obvious: being unhealthy is a social issue that affects us all. An unhealthy and sick population means that the more the government and society has to put money toward prevention and treatment costs. Those dollars can be prevented and directed elsewehere.
I probably haven’t told you anything that you haven’t heard already. Instead, you are probably wondering how Boltt plans to motivate healthy behavior.
Their overall strategy is to rely heavily on gamification to motivate and incentivize end users to participate in healthy behaviors and activities. In short, they will develop a platform, leverage blockchain technology, and issue a native utility token – BolttCoin (BOLTT) – to bind and record transactional data using smart contracts on the WAVES and Ethereum blockchains. The platform will also have the capability for individuals and corporations to host challenges, games, and tournaments. Winners will be eligible to receive BOLTT tokens as a reward. In addition, gamification within the platform will encourage users to make social groups and challenges to their friends and family to co-participate.
In sum, the Boltt platform will provide solutions to the following healthcare market gaps and pain point areas:
- Employer to employee engagement
- Retailer customer engagement & loyalty
- Lack of health insurer-policy holder engagement & loyalty
- Need for a seamless mobile health ecosystem
- Service provider-customer engagement & loyalty
REVENUE MODEL
The Boltt ecosystem will have multiple revenue streams:
- End users will be required to purchase a subscription estimated to be around $1.50 per month.
- Corporations, brands, and celebrities will be able to run sponsored health & fitness challenges on the Boltt App for their employees, followers, and consumers. Boltt will charge 5% of the sponsored reward amount.
- Bolt will charge a nominal commission fee (3-5%) for every purchase/transaction within their marketplace for goods and services.
- Several advertising options will be available such as sponsored ad content.
ICO DISTRIBUTION DETAILS & PROCEED ALLOCATION
BolttCoin ICO is structured in three waves:
- private sale: active until June 10, 2018
- pre-sale: June 20 to July 20, 2018
- public sale: August 1-30, 2018
Each wave has a bonus amount that the buyer will get in addition to the BOLTT bought.

FINAL THOUGHTS
Boltt is not a fly-by-night business. They have been operating since 2015 and have a solid team. Additionally, their documentation and plans are professional and everything has been well thought out. If they can create a platform that is user-friendly and just as inviting as their current work, then I think Boltt has the potential to make a positive social impact.
I also really like that Boltt’s platform is applicable to multiple types of stakeholders. Boltt envisions that the following entities can help build their ecosystem:
- End users
- Personal trainers
- Gyms
- Sports and wellness companies
- Health Insurers
- Celebrities
- Brands and employers
- Hospitals
- Retailers
The above are nice big and wealthy groups to market too. Therefore, it’s not hard to imagine that the potential for user adoption from those groups is quite large. The question will be will Boltt be able to bring in those users and retain them on their network. I would be remiss, if I didn't mention that I've seen a few of these individual groups in the ICO stage. The difference is Boltt is creating a platform where it makes sense for those groups to come together. If Boltt is successful with their vision, then the health data that they collect will be valuable as well.
I was worried about gaming the Proof of Walking system to mine BOLTT, but (through taking steps, jogging, running, or using the treadmill), but BOLTT has an answer for that as well. The steps will be tracked using Boltt wearables and/or integration with most smart accessories and apps for sports and activity tracking such as FitBit, Google Fit, Apple Watch, Apple Health Kit, etc. Data will be sent to Boltt and run through a data verification & security process by using an algorithm to detect cheating. If there is any doubt, steps will not be counted.
Even if Boltt can encourage a little physical activity from what people normally would do, and find ways to make them come back and keep up their activity, then I think Boltt should feel proud that they will have contributed positively toward a social issue.
Personally, I can’t wait to try Boltt out. I’m glad I stumbled across their ICO. Now, I just have to look for a new pair of running shoes 😊
