Für alle die noch etwas unerfahren mit Kryptowährungen sind und Fragen haben versuche ich hier euch die Welt der Kryptowährungen euch etwas näher zu bringen.
Sicher ist, dass es ab 2008 so richtig mit dem Bitcoin losging. Auf anonymousspeech.com registrierten anonyme Nutzer im August die Adresse Bitcoin.org. Unter dem Autorennamen Satoshi Nakamoto erschien dann im Oktober die erste Veröffentlichung zum Bitcoin. Das White Paper trägt den Titel: „Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System“.
Das brachte investigative Journalisten von "The New Yorker" und "Fastcompany" auf eine weitere Spur. Kurz vor der URL-Registrierung wurde in den USA nämlich ein Patent mit dem Namen "Updating and Distributing Encryption Keys" registriert (#20100042841). Darin stehen die Namen Neal King, Vladimir Oksman und Charles Bry. Trotz vieler möglicher Verbindungen dieser Herrschaften zum Bitcoin fanden die Journalisten jedoch keine stichhaltigen Beweise dafür, dass es sich um Satoshi Nakamoto handelt.

Auf Grund dieser Weiterentwicklungen können speziell die Blockchains immer neue und komplexere Aufgaben übernehmen und besitzen neben dem Werttransfer viele weitere Möglichkeiten der Anwendung.
Bei der Herstellung eines Coins unterscheiden wir grundlegend 2 Verfahren. Das Proof of Work (POW) und das Proof of Stake (POS).

Die Idee des Proof-of-Work ist, dass ein Dienstnutzer zuerst selbst etwas Arbeit verrichten muss, bevor er den Dienst in Anspruch nehmen darf – eine Art Benutzungsentgelt. Sie wurde erstmals im Jahr 1992 vorgeschlagen, um den Versand von Junk-Mails einzudämmen. Eine Implementierung dieses Verfahrens ist Hashcash.
Es existieren zahlreiche Probleme aus Bereichen wie der Kryptologie oder Numerik, deren Lösung nur aufwendig zu berechnen ist, die anschließend aber leicht auf Korrektheit geprüft werden kann. Ideal sind Probleme, deren Lösungsaufwand man zusätzlich noch durch leichte Anpassung der Aufgabenstellung beeinflussen kann. So lässt sich der Aufwand, den der Nutzer erbringen muss an die Gegebenheiten, beispielsweise die verfügbare Rechenleistung, anpassen.

Im Jahr 1999 schlugen Ari Juels und John Brainard, zwei Mitarbeiter der RSA Laboratories, folgende Aufgabe vor: Der Benutzer erhält den Hashwert einer Zeichenkette, sowie einen unvollständigen Teil der Zeichenkette. Er muss anhand des Hashwerts die fehlenden Zeichen bestimmen.
Eine weitverbreitete Abwandlung dieses Verfahrens findet beispielsweise auch bei der Kryptowährung Bitcoin Anwendung: Zu einer gegebenen Zeichenkette muss ein Hash gefunden werden, bei dem die ersten m Bits Nullen sind. Durch die Wahl der Anzahl m dieser Null-Bits lässt sich die Schwierigkeit und damit auch die Dauer der Berechnung steuern. Zusätzlich existiert noch ein frei wählbarer Wert, die Nonce, um sicherzustellen, dass eine Lösung gefunden werden kann.

Einfach gesagt benötigt man für das POW einen Computer. Dieser prüft die Richtigkeit einer Transaktion und ordnet all diese Transaktionen in einer bestimmten Reihenfolge an (Blockchain). Diese Rechenergebnisse werden in sogenannten Blöcken in einer Blockchain zusammengefasst. Der Miner erhält für die Lösung dieser Aufgabe und der Erstellung dieses Blocks als Belohnung eine definierte Anzahl der Coins. Für diese Berechnungen benötigt es einen gewaltigen Aufwand an Rechenleistung und Energie. Um diesen Aufwand betreiben zu können benötigt es weltweite Miningsfarmen, welche mit 100ten von Rechnern diese Aufgaben lösen und zum Beispiel den Bitcoin generieren.

Proof of Stake (POS)
Das POS ist ein viel energiesparenderes Verfahren. Es ist bereits mit einem Kryptokonto (Wallet) möglich diese Coins zu schürfen.
Beim POS werden alle Transaktionen auch wie beim POW in der Blockchain gespeichert. Allerdings werden hier die Transaktionen selbst einem Block zugeordnet. Zur Überprüfung der Transaktionen werden nun alle Blöcke nach der korrekten Reihenfolge überprüft und gespeichert. Wer eine gewisse Anzahl an Coins in seinem Wallet hält und somit einfach gesagt den Transaktionsfluss verlangsamt erhält als Dank einen Anteil an Coins. Je höher die gehaltene Anzahl an Coins ist, umso grösser ist die Beteiligung an diesen zufällig ausgeschütteten Coins.
Beispiel: Tim erhält 25 Coins und lagert diese auf seinem Wallet. Es wird ein Block erstellt mit der Info Tim 25 Coins. Er sendet nun 10 Coins an Hans. Nun erhält Hans einen Block mit der Info: Hans 10 Coins von Tim. Tim wiederum erhält einen neuen Block («quasi als Wechselgeld») mit der Info: Tim 15 Coins.
Das System überprüft nun und speichert all diese Transaktionen.
Wenn Tim jetzt diese 15 Coins mehr als 30 Tage in seinem Wallet liegen lässt erhält er somit die Berechtigung an der Coin Ausschüttung. Die Chancen aus dieser Variante Coins zu erhalten erhöht sich mit der Anzahl der Coins. So wird Tim mit seinen 15 Coins wenig Chancen haben innert einer kurzen Zeit einen Coin zu erhalten. Wenn er allerdings als Beispiel 50000 Coins im Wallet hält ist die Chance sehr gross neue Coins zu bekommen.
Proof of Stake (POS)
POS is a much more energy-efficient process. It is already possible with a Kryptokonto (Wallet) these coins.
