First Blockchain Transaction Within Somnium Space

Studio boss Artur Sychov has done the first blockchain transaction from inside the virtual world of Somnium Space. Thanks to the browser integration within Somnium Space, Sychov was able to buy a piece of art from the Opensea marketplace without ever leaving the virtual world or having to take off his VR headset.

Up until now users would always need to leave the virtual world of Somnium Space to do a blockchain transaction. Sychov is very positive about the future of blockchain and virtual reality. "In-world commerce will grow rapidly allowing the exchange of goods or services", the studio boss predicts.

He believes that a seamless integration of payments will allow for endless possibilities. However, having a browser inside a virtual world isn't seamless enough. Ideally you want to buy that digital art by visiting a virtual boutique and paying directly through a smooth interface. The next step for Sychov and his Somnium Space is to integrate everything directly into the virtual world's VR tablet, allowing for all kinds of purchases within virtual reality.

Somnium Space has been periodically making headlines in the past couple of months. Over a period of ten weeks the company sold virtual land for a total value of more than 470 thousand dollars. Integration with Unity now also allows users to create their own custom avatars.
