Lucid Sight has launched MLB Champions 2020 on iOS and Android. The blockchain-powered fantasy baseball game is a continuation of the earlier versions of MLB Champions. Baseball fans and gamers alike can sign up for an account on the official website.
In MLB Champions players use fantasy teams and simulated baseball matches to compete against each other. Those who end up high on the leaderboards earn special rewards. Players buy and sell their tokenized players on the in-game marketplace or a public marketplace like OpenSea.
At the moment the cheapest MLB Champions characters are Travis Shaw and Evan Longoria, who sell for 0.005 ETH. That's not even 70 dollar cents. That most expensive ones are listed for 299 ETH, or 40 thousand dollars. The price difference between these items, is hidden in their rarity.
However, the most popular digital collectibles are those based on baseball legends like Babe Ruth. These collectibles sell anywhere between 2 and 5 ETH each, but currently now of them are available for sale.
MLB Champions criticized
In April last year MLB Crypto Baseball renamed itself to MLB Champions in order to attract a broader audience. They launched the rebranded game with a new season, in which players got to collect digital versions of all-star and current baseball players. However, the game had some flaws.
One of them allowed players to make a lot of new figures. Game studio Lucid Sight considered this abuse, and banned certain users and removed tokens from the game's economy. As a result a group of gamers considered a lawsuit, based on the removal of 700 thousand digital items with an estimate value of 2 to 3 million dollars.
The whole debacle hurt the reputation of Lucid Sight, also the company behind Crypto Space Commander, and their baseball game. Hopefully they won't strike out with MLB Champions 2020.
