A blockchain game company from South Korea has launched a native NFT marketplace aimed at the Korean gaming sector. They named the platform PlayDapp Marketplace and it should serve as an easy gateway for the local gaming industry to get into digital assets. At launch the platform supports items from relative simple games like CryptoDozer and DozerBird.
The South Korean gaming industry is one of the biggest in the world. On a yearly basis there's over 12 billion dollars in revenue. In addition the country is known for its gaming culture and focus on competitive gaming. The market grows 7 percent per year on average over the past decade.
The PlayDapp Marketplace is accessible to a global community, as trades in NFTs - or non-fungible tokens - happen using cryptocurrencies like for example Ethereum. For now the supported list of games is really small, but more games will be added in the future. Along with the Gods: Knights of the Dawn is coming soon, according to an announcement on the website.
NFT gaining ground
There's a clear increase in the amount of marketplaces for non-fungible tokens. Opensea is still the most popular NFT marketplace, but more are coming. Nifty Gateway is an U.S.-based trading platform for non-fungible tokens, while Yiedl is coming to the market as well.
The Winklevoss brothers funded Nifty Gateway. These crypto billionaires are for example also behind the cryptocurrency exchange Gemini and the stablecoin GUSD. Last month Niftex launched, which allows to split ownership over tokenized assets. It's basically like having shares in a company, but instead these shares are in a single asset.
At the same time trading volumes are increasing. Project likes Sorare, Axie Infinity, and Superrare are introducing all kinds of new people into the space. The number of monthly active wallets has been increasing as well, as stated by different reports.
