Star Trek auctions gather over 135 thousand dollar

The Star Trek auctions for the blockchain-powered space exploration game Crypto Space Commander sold over 135 thousand dollars worth of in-game items. Star Trek-fans, crypto investors and blockchain game fanatics have bought Star Trek-related digital items and space ships for the game. The auctions were spread out over the entire month of September.

Six Star Trek space ships have accumulated $72.893. On top of that 2500 supply drops have been sold for a total of approximately $62.500. This makes the total sale of Star Trek-related in-game items 135.393 dollars.

The second auction was the most successful one. The U.S.S. Enterprise that was once commanded by Captain Jean-Luc Picard sold for little under 31 thousand dollars. The least successful was the U.S.S. Rio Grande from Deep Space Nine. This ship sold for a little over two thousand dollars.

Not the first auctions for CSC

During the entire month of September the team behind Crypto Space Commander did six Dutch auction for the same amount of space ships. The price of the ships started at $200.000 and dropped until someone was willing to buy it. The last ship that was auctioned, was the U.S.S. Voyager NCC-74656. This famous spaceship sold for $15.851.

Even though these Star Trek auctions were the first that were truly branded, they weren't the first auctions. In earlier auctions the developers sold the Sigma Battlecruiser for 25 thousand dollars, while the only player-owned trading outpost sold for 54 thousand dollars.

Blockchain games moving mainstream

There’s a trend of blockchain games being launched on traditional platforms. CSC can now be bought on Steam, while game engine developer Unity is building an SDK for blockchain games. Turn-based strategy-game Plague Hunters has blockchain-powered elements and should be coming to the Playstation 4 as well. The biggest gaming franchise diving into blockchain seems to be Cooking Mama, which is coming to Switch later this year.
