The Sandbox is adding a new mechanic that will define attributes for player-owned game assets. User-generated content that's stored on the blockchain through non-fungible tokens is getting five characteristics; power, defense, speed, magic and luck. Each asset gets to apply a maximum of four points, creating usability within the metaverse.
The Sandbox is introducing two new ERC-20 tokens to its game world to add the system of attributes to its game world. Gems and Catalysts are the tokens that will define the tier, scarcity and attributes of each tokenized asset. Creators will need these ERC-20 tokens in order to create defined utilities within the Sandbox metaverse.
First creators make a voxel-object and add animations to it using VoxEdit. After that they need to upload their creation to the marketplace. The next step would be to give their asset a name and description, while finally applying the Catalysts and Gems. The last steps are defining a category and theme, followed by sending the asset for approval.
Introducing Catalysts
A Catalyst token will be burned upon usage. Creators use this token to define the scarcity of their created object. For example, the more rare an asset is, the less copies there are and the more powerful the item is. There are four types of Catalysts:
- Common Catalyst: 200 copies of the ASSET and 1 Gem socket.
- Rare Catalyst: 50 copies of the ASSET and 2 Gem sockets.
- Epic Catalyst: 10 copies of the ASSET and 3 Gem sockets.
- Legendary Catalyst: 1 copies of the ASSET and 4 Gem sockets.
Players will be able to obtain Catalysts through several mechanics in the metaverse. Details aren't known yet, but TSB Gaming will announce more about this mechanic in the near future.
Introducing Gems
Together with the Catalysts, there are also Gems. These are ERC-20 tokens that will be burned upon usage as well. Gems define an asset's attributes, which are basically the main stats for that game asset within The Sandbox. The more attributes an asset has, the better players can use it. This obviously influences its value. One Gem adds 25 attribute points to an asset. Because there's a maximum amount of four gem sockets, there's a maximum of 100 attribute points.

Gameplay mechanics in virtual worlds
The Sandbox is eager to add gameplay elements to its metaverse. User generated content within the metaverse should be fun on its own, but there should also be something connecting all the dots. In April the developers behind The Sandbox revealed to Play to Earn their plans to add mechanics from massively multiplayer online role playing games to their virtual world.
They explained that the game ‘will feature similarities’ with massively multiplayer online role playing games to create ‘deeply immersive social games’. Perhaps The Sandbox will give experience points for visiting certain lands or playing certain mini-games. Theoretically they could even award players with NFTs or the in-game currency SAND. Currently the Catalysts also seem like an interesting reward for gamers, who in turn can sell their rewards to content creators.
What is The Sandbox?
The Sandbox is one of the blockchain-powered virtual worlds currently in development. This particular virtual world is supposed to launch its beta test this summer, but before that time there will be one more pre-sale. During this pre-sale gamers, businesses and investors can buy virtual land with a discount. You can now register, to make sure you’re not missing out.
Its first land sale sold out within a few hours, while the second one took 48 hours. The last one took place in March and sold out within a day. It was the biggest land sale so far, offering ten percent of the world up for sale.
The virtual world of The Sandbox consists out of lands, and voxels fill up each of those lands. Visually it will remind many gamers of Minecraft, as both games have this Lego-inspired look to them. However, players are able to buy virtual land and implement any form of monetization. These virtual lands can become mini-games, adventures, virtual shops, extensions of actual webshops, a space for social gatherings, and so on.
